My Mom (Doris), Dad (Vermont) and I (Wayne) drove from Palm Springs to the Rose Bowl the morning of January 1, 1998. We got there early, and had plenty of time to walk around the Stadium prior to the game; we saw part of the Rose Parade also. Our tickets were on the 40 yard line behind the WSU bench. I bought a Reference 1 program for $10.00.
The Washington State team turned in a good performance, in spite of losing their star running back in the first half. Near the end of the game they completed a pass for a first down on Michigan’s 26 yard line (with 2 seconds on the clock), however, they ran out of time when the QB spiked the ball. After the game WSU’s coach Mike Price told the media his new Rose Bowl watch works fine, except it shorts him 2 seconds on the hour. WSU ended their season with 2 losses.
A few days after the Rose Bowl, I took the train from LA to Olympia, WA.
