South Island of New Zealand

Prior to leaving Seattle in January 1989, I had an Automobile Association map of the South Island of New Zealand.  My friend Nik and I sat down and I jotted down notes on the map of places that he recommended going. On another occasion, I spent some time with Ron and Jody, and they provided me with many suggestions. Ron asked me to stop at Ross [near Hokitika] at Ross Furs and buy him a Possum fur hat, which I did. He said he wanted the hunter's hat with ear muffs. It cost $60. Ron recomended that I try a venison meat pie in NZ also.

During the trip I had a copy of reference 1, which had a lot of information about New Zealand. I used reference 2 to help with selecting Tracks to hike. I knew I would be fishing while on the South Island, so I bought reference 3.
