Elk of the Hoh R. Valley - 1985
In Winter or early Spring of ’85, I went to the Hoh Visitor Center and Campground for a weekend of camping to enjoy the Hoh rain forest and hopefully to see some Roosevelt elk. I was not disappointed. When I went for a late afternoon walk along the Hoh R. trail, I saw some elk across the river. And just before dark, elk were near the Hoh River Campground, and could easily be seen from the road. The next morning, I got up early and found elk in the Campground--not far from my camp site. It should be noted that Olympic National Park was created to help protect the Roosevelt elk.
