The Bears of Fish Creek
From Stewart, B.C., one can easily drive to the Fish Cr. Bear Viewing Station, near Hyder, AL. Early morning, and late evening are the best times to see grizzly or black bears. Because the lighting isn’t good at these times, it is recommended to use the equivalent of ASA 400 or faster film. Whether or not you see bears may depend upon whether or not there is a good run of Chum salmon on Fish Cr. For example, in 2008 the Chum run was very low, and I didn’t see any bears at Fish Cr. that Fall.
