Fly Fishing (Winter SH)

It has been stated that fly-fishing for Winter-run steelhead is not productive because the steelhead are not active in the cold waters during the Winter. I agree that steelhead are sluggish if ice is forming on the fishing rod guides.  However, if that isn’t the case, and the rivers are fishable, my rod of choice is a fly-rod for Winter steelhead. Western Washington rivers may offer more options during the Winter-time for steelhead compared to Summer. I was introduced to fly-fishing by Bill and Tom (see Locale->Longiew->Vintage Mt. St. Helens). They taught me the art of fly-fishing. Bill gave me a lesson on how to do “the double haul” cast, on a river in SW Washington many years ago.
