Drift Fishing (Summer SH)

The Kalama R. is a 3 hour drive from the Twin Harbors area.  I learned how to drift fish for steelhead on this river. Vermont and I got some tips from “Herman the Fisherman”, who showed us how to catch them using orange yarn. In the summer, when river conditions are low and clear, fishing is generally better in early morning and late evening; I recommend using lighter line during these conditions also, e.g. 8 lb test. Drift fisherman frequently use salmon eggs, sand-shrimp or beads & yarn for catching steelhead.
